Last appointment with the ThinMan Tips & Tricks series and with the new tricks we share with you on how to make the most of your ThinMan console and optimize the management of your company’s workstations.
Helpdesk support
Often the fastest and most effective way to find a solution to a collaborator’s problem is to intervene directly on his workstation. However, it may not always be easy to do so in a timely manner, especially when one needs to operate on remote devices or to intervene while other needs arise. Praim ThinMan provides the Remote Assistance feature which can be started directly from the console, with a click, and allows sharing access on the remote desktop.
It’s important to know that this function is native to all Praim products and can be configured according to your operational needs. If, for example, the need is to offer remote assistance to a colleague who works on the move on an unstable or low-bandwidth connection, it’s possible to choose in advance the quality level with which to activate the assistance, so that the session is faster and smoother despite the network.
Optimize access to the ThinMan console
If the reality in which you operate is medium-large, the organization of the Helpdesk team is also an important factor in contributing to efficiency and security. Several users will need to be able to access the ThinMan console to manage the infrastructure and provide assistance to end users and the larger the infrastructure (and the greater the number of people who manage it), the greater the need for order in the organization and in the correct distribution of accesses and privileges.
The console access permission management feature, ThinMan Access Control List, is made available with the Admin+ Feature Pack precisely to allow the IT administrator to integrate with the company Active Directory and automatically control:
- Accesses to ThinMan, limiting them to specific users/groups of the domain.
- The choice of the functionality level made accessible to each user.
- The definition of the areas of competence, i.e. on which groups of devices each user can operate.
For example, some users will be able to offer only remote assistance, for others it will also be possible to change the configuration policies. Furthermore, the various users can be given access to the console by distributing the ThinMan Remote Console, which allows the use of the necessary functions of the ThinMan server from the team members’ individual workstations.
Customize the management environment
The ThinMan dashboard offers a summary view which shows, for all devices (or for a selected group), the main characteristics of the workstation. ThinMan offers more than 50 parameters that can be displayed as desired in the control panel, to have the best overview of the infrastructure, useful for one’s purposes, and therefore sort or search for devices according to this information.
If, for example, it’s necessary to distinguish which devices connect or not via VPN, which configuration profile has been assigned, which user is in session on the device, or more… ThinMan allows you to configure all this in detail! Furthermore, it’s also possible to add among the displayed parameters any Class/Value defined in the classifications, thus making sorting and searching for devices even faster.
