This behavior is due to the “Write Filter” feature that is available on the Windows Embedded devices (XPe, WES7, WES8, Windows 10 IoT). All changes are in fact written into the RAM memory and not physically stored on the “hard disk”. This allows greater security and speed of use.
In order to save the changes made on the unit follow the procedures explained below.
For XPe and WES7 devices model run the “Praim Manager” applet available under the Windows “Control Panel” software (for newer version of WES7 the new name of the applet is “Praim Agile”). Double click on the “Write Filter” icon. Click on the “Commit” button to save the changes made on the device (the device will be restarted). You can find more information at this link https://wiki.praim.com/display/WES7/Using+the+Write+Filter .
For models equipped with WES8 and Windows 10 IoT operating system the UWF (Universal Write Filter) mechanism does not allows to save the changes after they are made. You need to first disable the write filter (Disable UWF, the device is restarted); make the changes; then reactivate the disk protection (Enable UWF, the device is restarted).
