A router is a networking active device able to address and manage the communication between two or more computers.

Without entering into technical details, I just underline that routers are one of the hearts of the computer nets (the other are DNS), and metaphorically they intervene like the traffic corps in case of congestion: they grant the traffic flow, manage priorities and if necessary they give information.
