It is an agreement usually subscribed by the end user of the software and by the manufacturer (vendor) who develops it.

The Software Assurance agreement can have different contents, based on the vendor policies, it usually grants the end user the right to all the product’s updates, technical support on the product and technical intervention times.
It usually has an annual coverage, with optional renewal. Costs can vary based on services and from the supply modalities. The Software Assurance agreement is typically tied to the sale of software products and it is dimensioned with a % of the start selling cost. If the software solution is provided on the Cloud with a rent rate, the Software Assurance is normally part of the rent.
